JAM

Since 2001, Stecoah JAM has taught the children of Graham County about their musical heritage and traditions by offering classes in traditional Appalachian music. The program is one of the longest running JAM programs in Appalachia. We serve both Graham County School and homeschool students in grades 4 – 12.

Fall 2025 Information:

Junior Appalachian Musicians Program Comes to Robbinsville

Due to construction delaying passage between Robbinsville and Stecoah, Stecoah Valley Center’s Junior Appalachian Musicians Program leaders are pivoting. A core value is making Appalachian music accessible. Therefore, for the Fall semester of JAM, classes will be held in Robbinsville, at Grace Fellowship Church. The hope is this change will allow more students to participate.

Classes will be on Tuesdays, right after school. Roger Gibbs will be teaching beginning guitar and beginning mandolin. Nathan Benton will be assisting him in guitar. Dwight Bradshaw will be the instructor for intermediate guitar and JAM Band. Instructor Daylan Carver, former JAM student & instructor, will be teaching beginning and intermediate fiddle.

JAM is free for 4th-12th graders to join, but registration is required. Click on the button below to register.    Registration is open through September 30, but lessons begin on Tuesday, September 9.

Instruction in beginner and intermediate fiddle, guitar and mandolin are held weekly and follows the Graham County public school calendar.  Graham County schools students may ride the bus aftershool to Grace Fellowship Church and will need to be picked up following their lesson at Grace.

We also have a JAM Band which focuses on learning to play together as a group. Our JAM Band is available for performance opportunities; please contact us with your inquiries.
